Prescott-area transportation planners are asking the state to put a widening project for the highway that connects Prescott and northern Yavapai County back on track for state funding.
The widening of Highway 89 between Prescott and Chino Valley was part of the Arizona Department of Transportation's funding program for the next five years.
However, the department recently disclosed that widening the portion of the highway closest to Prescott is being deferred and is no longer part of the five-year program.
According to The Daily Courier, the Central Yavapai Metropolitan Planning Organization is asking the state Transportation Board to put the widening back on track.
