Travel researchers said Super Bowl XLVII gave Baton Rouge a major tourism boost.

Smith Travel Research, which tracks hotel occupancy nationwide, reported hotel occupancy in the Capital City was 81 percent the day before the big game. On that day last year, occupancy was only 54 percent.

The report also stated hotel guests spent $2.54 million from Friday to Sunday of the Super Bowl weekend.

"The Super Bowl offered a great opportunity to showcase our city, and this report shows how effectively we prepared and executed," said Paul Arrigo, president and CEO of Visit Baton Rouge.
