The third of four public hearings was held on Monday about Duke Energy's proposed electrical and natural gas rate increase.
The company wants to raise residential utility rates by about 6%. Duke estimates an average increase of $6.50/month for electric bills and about $10.25/month for natural gas.
Consumer advocate groups opposing the increase believe the initial rate hike will lead the energy company to request another rate increase to pay for the relocation and replacement of utility lines associated with the Cincinnati Street Car Project.
Monday's meeting was held at the Middletown City Building. The final public utilities commission hearing will be at Cincinnati City Hall, scheduled for Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
