Security had to get between two fired up council members Wednesday at a meeting in Port Allen.
Two issues dominated the volatile meeting, which played out before a packed house.
Some council members pushed back, saying Slaughter could not take that action on her own and that the council needed to be involved.
McCain's attorney has asked a judge to issue a temporary order Thursday, putting McCain back on the job while the court decides who is right.
The other issue was whether Mayor Slaughter could hire her brother-in-law in a newly-created position of chief of staff to the mayor, which brought more fireworks.
A special meeting will be held for further discussions on that issue, which may ultimately wind up in court as well.
