University of Kentucky freshman Nerlens Noel has torn his ACL and is out for the season, the school said on Wednesday.
He landed awkwardly on the leg, dropped to the floor and started screaming while clutching his knee during Tuesday night's name against Florida. The top recruit left the arena in a wheelchair with his leg in a brace and was taken to a hospital for tests Tuesday night. He had an MRI on Wednesday morning after X-rays came back negative.
Noel will undergo surgery. The normal timetable for recovery is six to eight months.
Noel is the nation's leading shot blocker at 4.5 per game.
"Minor setback for a MAJOR comeback! I love you all and can't thank y'all enough for the prayers," Noel tweeted on Wednesday afternoon.
