A former Property Unit supervisor is in jail after being accused of stealing more than $2,000 from the Sheriff's Property Division.

A report from the Auditor of the state shows that Michael Esposito failed to deposit money into the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department Property Division's bank account.

The auditor reports that Esposito deposited a little over $10,000 dollars into the bank; however, a total of $2,400 was unaccounted for and missing in February 2013.

Esposito was convicted on five felony charges and will serve a six year sentence in prison.

Background

Three people who are accused of theft from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Property Room were in court during the month of February.

Michael Esposito, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Property Room Supervisor, was taken into custody on Tuesday following a six month long investigation. His wife, Allison Esposito and her son, Adam Fintak, were also arrested.

All three were charged with one count of tampering with evidence, a third degree felony. Bond for Fintak and Michael Esposito was set for $15,000. Allison Esposito was released on her own recognizance.

Michael Esposito was an employee with the sheriff's office since 2001 and was placed on unpaid administrative leave during the investigation.
