PEORIA, AZ (CBS5) -
Peoria police have identified the victims in a double fatal stabbing Sunday night and said the suspect in the case is facing two counts of first-degree murder.
A Peoria police spokeswoman said Benjamin Rodriguez, 27, of Peoria, was apprehended after a short struggle with Phoenix police at a family member's house near 107th Avenue and Camelback Road before 9 a.m. Monday.
Rodgriguez is suspected of stabbing to death Gwen O'Reilly, 58, and her husband, Raymond O'Reilly, 54, at a home near 69th and Peoria avenues. Both are Peoria residents.
Witnesses and evidence led investigators to identify Rodriguez as the suspect.
Rodriguez is believed to have been among six people at the home when the victims were stabbed about 10:45 p.m., according to Lt. Stephen Hadley of the Peoria Police Department.
Hadley said the victims were taken to a nearby hospital where they were pronounced dead. Hadley said the couple was husband and wife, but the two were currently separated.
Rodriguez was visiting the home as part of a social gathering, Hadley said.
Hadley said police have been in contact with Rodriguez in the past.
