Clarksville man, 63, arrested; shrine to 9-year-old girl found in home

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Clarksville police arrested a 63-year-old man this morning after finding a shrine inside of his residence dedicated to a 9-year-old female.

Police said they had received a tip that Lenzo Grooms, 63, had created a shrine to the girl who had visited the residence several times.

Grooms has been charged with aggravated sexual battery, assault and aggravated criminal trespass. He is being held on a $106,000 bond.

Detectives determined Grooms had a photography business titled Have Brush Will Travel in which he offered a contract to take photographs of neighborhood female children for $20.

Between October 2012 and January 2013, the 9-year-old girl was brought to the Oak Street home by a trusted family friend on several occasions to have photographs taken.

The 9-year-old had been given money and gifts for the pictures to be taken. It was also determined that Grooms had set up a bedroom for her to stay in.

During one of the visits, Grooms had entered the bedroom and had inappropriately touched the child and, at one point, had rubbed baby lotion on the child's buttocks, according to police.

After the child returned home, the girl's mother noticed a change in the child's mood and questioned her daughter. The child told her mother what had happened at Grooms' house, at which time the child was no longer allowed to go with the family friend to the residence.

On Feb. 2, Grooms showed up at the residence where the child had previously lived. He was told by the property owner that he was not wanted at the property.

Grooms appeared at the residence several days in a row. He started threatening the occupants of the residence, stating that "if she did not deliver certain items to the 9-year-old female he would end her life," according to police.

Grooms has a previous criminal history, including second-degree murder and robbery, according to authorities.
