TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -
There could be a big change at the Tuscaloosa Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Ted Sexton may be leaving for a new job.
Sexton is reportedly a candidate to lead the Homeland Security Division of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office.
In a text message to Tuscaloosa Reporter Kelvin Reynolds Wednesday, Sheriff Sexton said, "I'm heading home to Tuscaloosa from D.C....honored to be considered, but I have not received an offer."
A few minutes later he called Reynolds. In that conversation Sheriff Sexton says his phone has been ringing constantly with friends asking him if he's taking a job out of state.
He wouldn't confirm that he is taking a job in L.A. and would only say he hasn't received an offer yet.
However, some say it would not be a shock if Sheriff Sexton took a position in L.A. County. He has had a long relationship with the sheriff there, including training sessions with his deputies and their counterparts from the west coast over the years.
The sheriff has maintained a low profile since losing the race for Tuscaloosa County Probate Judge in November.
