BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
The Krewe of Southdowns officially secured their permit Tuesday
with a slight change to the historic parade route.
Construction along Cloverdale will force the parade to take one of
its final turns on Stanford and proceed down that street to the parade's end
near Perkins.
Neighbors along Cloverdale are for the most part going along with
their parade plans, although some are a little disappointed.
"I feel like it's a tradition through the years and I think it's something
that should continue even with the road work," said David Capio.
The construction is part of the city parish's improvement plan to
the neighborhood's aging infrastructure. The work is in its final stages, but
will not be complete in time to have the road paved.
"We're pretty disappointed that we couldn't go down
Cloverdale," said David DuCotte, parade president.
"We have some really great friends of the Flambeaux supporters on Cloverdale
and I know they are going to miss having their parties and we're going to miss
seeing them in their yards but hopefully they will come and visit us in one
intersection or another."
The Southdowns parade begins Friday, February 8 at 7 p.m. at Lee
High School.
