CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police in Clarksville said a man was killed in an early-morning fire Monday.

The fire occurred at a home on Cave Street around 1:50 a.m.

An officer said he was conducting a traffic stop on Providence Boulevard when he spotted flames coming from the house.

When more police arrived, they were able to rouse a man, identified as Matias Hernandez-Castellano, 50, from his sleep and pull him to safety.

Police said initially, they thought Castellano was the only person inside the house, but later discovered there was another man living at the residence.

Flames prevented them from reentering the home, said police.  Firefighters later found a man in his late 20s deceased inside the home.

Crews were on the scene until after 6 a.m. as the fire continued to reignite.
