2013 Bright Design Challenge Launches Polaris Project with College of Creative Studies

The National Association for Surface Finishing (NASF) launched its 2013 Bright Design Challenge with the College of Creative Studies on January 16, 2013 in Detroit, Michigan. This intense 12 week competition will require students to work within strict, realistic guidelines and focus on incorporating and depicting the best use of industrial surface finishes for the Indian motorcycle brand developed by recreational manufacturing company, Polaris.

To date, hundreds of students have taken part in this annual program that invites students to think beyond traditional design theory to showcase "next generation" creative and engineering solutions. Students will be required to incorporate various types of finishing solutions that will reduce wear, enhance corrosion resistance and appearance of a product while extending the product's useful life. At the conclusion of the program, scholarships will be applied directly to the winning student's tuition.

"These students are creating remarkable new designs to elevate and benefit the finishing industry," said Tony Revier, NASF Past Board President. "Our Association is proud to have created this program as part of our "Surface Technology Initiative". It's here that we promote the finishing industry's contribution to society and our commitment to advancing a sustainable future for North American manufacturing."
