Male doc wears red dress for Christ heart health campaign

A doctor at Christ Hospital traded his stethoscope for a red dress and heels on Friday.

Cincinnati's Go Red for Women campaign unveiled a special event at the Christ Hospital Heart and Vascular Center. Five male physicians competed for the honor of wearing a red dress, the symbol of the American Heart Association's 'Go Red for Women' campaign.

Voters picked between the competing doctors on Christ Hospital's Facebook page during the month of January, and Doctor Richard Budde was named the winner.

Dr. Budde sported the red dress, heels and a wig at hospital's cafeteria, all to raise awareness for heart health.

"The biggest thing is just an awareness that heart disease is the number one killer of women, and with that, we need to be aware of our risk factors... We need to be aware of our family history and rick factors for smoking and obesity," said Monica Hunter, Cardiologist at Christ Hospital.

Doctors say one in four women die of heart disease, the number one killer in America, and campaigns like 'Go Red for Women' can raise awareness and save lives.
