BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Fire officials said 10 people are in need of a place to live after their home caught fire when they weren't there Thursday morning.
The St. George Fire Department said the fire sparked at a house in the 8800 block of Pecue Lane in Baton Rouge around 10:15 a.m. A passerby saw the house was on fire and called 911.
A spokesperson said it took more than 20 firefighters, four fire engines and a ladder truck to put out the fire. It was declared under control just before 11 a.m.
Officials said the home where four adults and six children lived is a total loss. No one was home at the time. The Red Cross was called out to assist them.
Pecue was closed in both directions until just before 1 p.m. because hoses had to be strung across the road and because of all of the emergency vehicles involved.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
