A convicted felon has pleaded not guilty to charges that he allegedly shot and wounded a Phoenix police officer earlier this month.
Court records show Brandon McCabe entered his plea during his arraignment Wednesday. He's being held on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, misconduct involving weapons, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.
McCabe is accused of shooting Officer Peter "Chris" Bennett six times on the night of Jan. 6. The 36-year-old Bennett survived and is recovering from surgery to his face, right arm and right hip.
Police say Bennett approached McCabe in an area with a high burglary rate. They say McCabe ignored the officer's command and the two exchanged gunfire.
McCabe was arrested after being found hiding in a shed. He had gunshot wounds to both hands.
