SORRENTO, LA (WAFB) - Investigators have made an arrest in a deadly shooting described as an execution-style killing.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said Calvin "Dirt" Williams, 37, of Baton Rouge was arrested Sunday in the shooting death of Gerald "Butta" Wilkins, also of Baton Rouge.

Deputies said Williams surrendered to US marshals in Baton Rouge and detectives with APSO transported him to the Ascension Parish jail.

Sheriff Jeff Wiley said Wilkins was murdered on LV Road in Sorrento on Jan. 12.

"Wilkins was found shot to death on the side of the road in what appeared to be an execution-style slaying," Wiley explained.

Williams was booked on a charge of second-degree murder.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible.

Officials said he is a convicted felon who had been arrested 21 times since 1993.

In 2007, he was taken into custody for first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder. The year before that, he was arrested for attempted second-degree murder.

His rap sheet shows he has been arrested several times for robbery and armed robbery. He has also been arrested multiple times on various drug charges.
