SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -
High winds, power outages and downed utility poles are the result of a severe weather system that moved through the ArkLaTex Tuesday night. Caddo, Bossier and DeSoto parishes were under a tornado watch that ended at 1 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The warning came as a weather system tracks northwest out of East Texas and into the ArkLaTex. The heart of the system left the Shreveport-Bossier City area by about 9:30 p.m. At the time, KSLA Storm Tracker 12 detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado in Winn Parish.
Damage and road hazards were reported throughout the Shreveport-Bossier City area.
Bossier City police say windows were broken on some cars in the Harrah's Louisiana Downs parking lot.
Utility poles fell in the 3200 block of Dearborn Street, as well as on David Raines Road, says Shreveport Police spokesman Cpl. Marcus Hines.
A tree fell in the roadway in the 8900 block of Walker Road, and a tree fell in the back yard of a residence in the 400 block of Albert Street damaged part of a car, Hines says.
Shreveport Police advised citizens to stay at home until the system passed.
The National Weather Service confirmed that one person was injured in one of two RVs that were knocked over in Hughes Springs, Texas in Cass County.
Callers to KSLA reported that at least 7 RVs in Hughes Spring were pushed off of their blocks because of very strong, straight-line winds.
That was one of the areas hardest hit by the long line of severe thunderstorms. No other injuries were reported.
SWEPCO reported a power outage affecting about 1,200 customers in Caddo and Bossier parishes as of 4:30 a.m. In Sabine Parish about 1,350 were without power, 1,027 in Red River and 535 in Natchitoches.
In Texas, about 315 Gregg County customers were without power and about 432 Harrison County. About 131 in Miller County, Arkansas customers were without power.
