BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
While Mardi Gras Krewes of Jupiter and Juno rolled through downtown Baton Rouge, some people along the route were plagued with the urge to go to the bathroom... but with nowhere to go.
David Lee manages the Capitol Creamery on North Blvd. He says he had dozens of requests to use the restroom this past weekend. "I think they should have restrooms along the route," says Lee. Lee says he would support an ordinance requiring parades to provide the portable potties.
Metro Councilman John Delgado says he will look into an ordinance. Currently there is no provision for parade krewes to provide portable potties. "There've obviously been a lot of complaints about the parades this past weekend," says Delgado. "I know some of the larger parades, like Spanish Town, provides porta potties without being required by the council."
"We put out 75 port o'lets throughout the parade route, that's in reply to the community asking us for something along the way in that area for their convenience if you will," says Bill Brumfield board member to Spanish Town parade.
But Brumfield thinks the toilets are a good idea but he is against an ordinance that would allow the city to force the parades to provide the facilities. "I think each parade should take their own action and I don't want to say what we're doing, everybody has to," says Brumfield.
