ASU's Alexander hoping to return to freshman form

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Lady Rams basketball team is out of three game rut after getting a 3 point win over Claflin on Saturday. Junior guard Kourtney Alexander hit several key shots down the stretch and finished with 14 points on the day.

Alexander has been a shell of herself lately and had been struggling with her shot but recently has been one of the team's go to shooters down the stretch once again.

The junior from Hinesville was a stand out player on the ASU roster her freshman year but took a couple steps back after sophomore slump.

Head coach Robert Skinner is hoping Alexander can return to her form from a couple years ago when she was a 2nd team All-SIAC selection. He says he tries to keep either her or the league's leading scorer April Thomas on the floor at all times.

Alexander knows her role on the team is crucial.

"I've been trying to stay in the gym as much as I can. Stay later after practice and come on my off days and shoot. I've been working hard and harder but its slowly getting there." She said

Head coach Robert Skinner added, "We need here to perform every day. Getting her to come and be consistent has been one of our problems. I don't know what she scored tonight. I know she's probably had one of her better scoring outings. She played more like she did her freshman year than she did her sophomore year."

If the Saints wanted to keep their playoff hopes alive, yes I know it's only two games into the season, they needed a win in Carolina today. Thanks to three Drew Brees touchdown passes, the Black and Gold did just that, beating the Panthers 34-13. Brees was 22-of-29 passing, for 220 yards on the afternoon. His counterpart, Cam Newton, struggled in Charlotte going 17-of-26 passing, with a 167 yards and three interceptions. Trailing 3-0 early in the contest, Brees and the Saints went ...
