RED RIVER PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

An escaped prisoner was captured Saturday afternoon in Red River Parish.

Forty-five-year-old Richard Waylon Bamburg escaped from the Avoyelles Parish Detention Center near Bunkie, La., on Jan. 12.

The Red River Parish Sheriff's Office, working in conjunction with the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office, the Louisiana Department of Corrections, the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force and the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office SWAT team, captured Bamburg after he was found hiding in the attic of a residence in the community of Martin.

Bamburg was captured two hours into a standoff with authorities when a Red River Parish sheriff's deputy saw him as he tried to drop back down into the residence from a small access point in the attic.

Bamburg has a lengthy criminal history, including arrests for attempted murder, aggravated sexual battery, burglary, narcotics violations and a prior escape charge.
