COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -
Three days after one of the biggest pileups in United States history, authorities revealed more people were impacted than originally counted.
According to Hamilton County Sheriff's Office spokesman, Jim Knapp, there were a total of 96 vehicles involved in the I-275 pileup, compared to 86 which was initially reported. Authorities say some vehicles near the front of accident were only received minor damage. As a result, they were able to drive away and file a report later.
In addition, 27 people in total were taken to the hospital with injuries, said Greg Brown of the Colerain Twp. Fire Department, instead of 20 as originally thought.
There were 16 ambulances that responded to the scene.
Officers estimate a final report of the pileup within two to three weeks, as more information comes in and responders continue to compare notes from the scene.
According to a list of multiple-vehicle collisions, Monday's accident falls 25th largest in U.S. history.
