PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A man who was shot during an attempted carjacking Wednesday night drove himself to a south Phoenix police precinct for help.
Two men walked up on the SUV in which the victim and another man were sitting and demanded their vehicle at 10 p.m. near 19th Avenue and Baseline Road, according to Lt. Chris Moore of the Phoenix Police Department.
When they refused to turn over the SUV, the driver was shot in the upper body with one round from an AK-47 assault rifle, Moore said. The driver was able to drive to the South Mountain Precinct, where an ambulance was called.
Moore said police were still seeking the suspects Thursday morning. Officers said one witness told them the suspects were heading west on 19th Avenue in a light-brown SUV.
Moore said evidence of the shooting was recovered near 19th Avenue and Baseline Road.
There was no word on the condition of the victim.
No other information was immediately available.
