BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Police said a teen was taken into custody for shooting a 44-year-old man and taking his bicycle early Thursday morning.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said a 16-year-old was put in the East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Detention Center on the following charges:
Attempted second-degree murder
Armed robbery
Illegal use of a dangerous weapon
Illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile
The shooting happened on North Foster Drive near Winbourne Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Police said the suspect walked up to the victim wearing a ski mask and just started shooting. The victim was hit by three rounds.
Investigators said the suspect left the man lying in the street and rode off on his bicycle.
The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
Authorities said officers quickly responded to the area and caught up to the suspect on North Ardenwood Drive near Wenonah Street Park. The boy reportedly hopped off the bike and ran into the school bus parking lot when he saw the police cars.
Detectives said the teenager was found hiding in the lot.
They added police dogs sniffed out the gun believed to have been used in the shooting.
