LOCKPORT, LA (WAFB) - Authorities arrested a 35-year-old man Wednesday in connection with a triple murder that left a mother and her two daughters dead in November.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office said David Brown faces the following charges:

First-degree murder (3 counts)

Attempted murder

Aggravated rape

Aggravated arson

Jacquelin Nieves, 29; Gabriella Nieves, 7; and Izabella Nieves, 20 months, were killed on Nov. 4, 2012. Investigators believe Brown broke into the Lockport apartment early that Sunday morning armed with a knife. They suspect he went into one of the bedrooms and sexually assaulted two of the victims before stabbing all three of them several times each.

According to deputies, Brown set the apartment on fire and left. The woman's husband, Carlos Nieves Jr., was asleep downstairs the whole time. He eventually woke up and called 911 because the apartment was on fire. Detectives said Brown faces the attempted murder charge because the man was inside the apartment when the fire started.

Detectives said they found what they thought was the knife used in the attack on the victims and DNA at the scene that was matched to Brown.

Brown was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on the charges mentioned above. He was already in jail after getting arrested the same day as the murders for a different incident. Deputies said he was on probation at the time of his arrest, so he was not eligible to be released.
