GOODYEAR, AZ (CBS5) -
Neighbors, a dog and a functioning smoke detector all contributed to alerting a Goodyear couple to a fire in their mobile home Wednesday morning.
The couple was displaced by the fire about 4:30 a.m. after their home suffered fire and smoke damage in the area of McDowell and Citrus roads, according to the Goodyear Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived to find the fire burning in a spare bedroom. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire, according to the fire department.
Neighbors banging on the door, a barking dog and the smoke detectors were integral in warning the couple in time to safely evacuate.
The family was being assisted by a crisis care unit to find alternative housing.
The cause was still under investigation, according to the fire department.
