CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A conservative group called "Opportunity Ohio" is making the salaries of public school teachers, principals, and superintendents available on its website.

The group says it's making the pay data available "for citizens to use to monitor compensation costs" for K-12 public schools in Ohio.

FOX19 searched the group's database to see what the salary levels are like in our viewing area.

A Cincinnati Public Schools spokeswoman tells FOX19 the salary information for superintendent Mary Ronan on "Opportunity Ohio's" website is not up-to-date. According to Ronan's latest contract, at the beginning of this school year, Ronan's salary went down to $99,000 a year, well below the national average.

Salary information on the Ohio treasurer's website indicates Ronan made $189,000 a year in 2010 and 2011.

Ronan's contract, which took effect on August 2, 2012, shows she will make a base salary of $99,000 through July 31, 2015. The contract also gives her $500/month for a car and $600/month for "professional expenses."

Opportunity Ohio's website shows that Cincinnati Public Schools superintendent Mary Ronan makes $189,000. That's 17% higher than the national average of $161,992, according to District Administration magazine.

We picked a teacher at random to see what they earn in the Cincinnati area. AP psychology teacher Kathy Noland at Walnut Hills High School makes $45,291. That's pretty typical for a Cincinnati teacher, according to Salary.com. The median salary for a teacher here is about $50,000.

Meanwhile, superintendents in smaller school districts make below the national average, according to Opportunity Ohio's database.

Janet Baker, the superintendent of the Hamilton City Schools District in Butler County, makes $112,651. In Clermont County, the superintendent of the New Richmond Exempted Village School District, Adam Bird, makes $110,000.

In the next couple of weeks, Gov. John Kasich (R-OH) is expected to unveil a plan to tie teachers' compensation to how well their students are performing inside the classroom. FOX19 will be investigating the pro's and con's of such a plan as the governor reveals more details.
