BROWN COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

A man is behind bars after a police chase in a stolen car which ended in the Ohio River on Monday.

Patrick Ormond, 27, was driving on U.S. 52 in Ripley, Ohio, when a trooper tried to pull him over for a vehicle defect around 3:30 p.m. Authorities say when the trooper got out of the cruiser, Ormond fled in his car on U.S. 52, headed eastbound.

After 7.9 miles of the police pursuit, Ormond lost control of his car in the Village of Aberdeen and hit a utility pole. As a result, his car flipped over on its top.

Officers say he then got out of the overturned car and fled on foot, and eventually jumped into the Ohio River. Ormond then willingly surrendered and was taken to the Brown County General Hospital for injuries, then taken into custody.

According to authorities, he was driving a stolen 2002 Ford Taurus from Perrysburg, Ohio. In addition, the license plate on the car was stolen from a separate car in Mason.

Ormond had three active felony warrants with Cincinnati Police.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
