On January 22, Online Bed Quilt comments on an article published by Furniture Today discussing the Specialty Sleep Association’s new website, which informs consumers and sales representatives on the safety of mattress materials.
According to the article published by Furniture Today, the Specialty Sleep Association (SSA) is launching its new website, Bedfax.org, at an upcoming event in Las Vegas at the end of January. The educational event, called “What’s In Your Mattress?” will be held on Jan. 28 at the World Market Center and will aim to inform consumers and retailers on mattress contents.
Justin Maas, a representative from the mattress review company Online Bed Quilt, said a lot of people have misconceptions about the chemicals in mattresses, as well as how they are made. “Many parents and other adults are concerned with their health when it comes to mattresses, especially when it comes to the protective flammability coatings,” Maas said. “I think this seminar event will be really beneficial for consumers that want to know what they’re sleeping on and make informed decisions on what type of mattress they should purchase.”
The article said the SSA wanted to launch the Bedfax to help drive mattress sales, while also promoting its proposed product-labeling program to mattress manufacturers and dealers.
"Women, especially moms, will continue to drive demand for safe and sustainable home goods, including bedding products, but many are confused or wary of misinformation," said SSA President Dale Read in the article. "With Bedfax.org, the SSA intends to create an online resource for pre-purchase research, with the ultimate goal of connecting consumers to dealers that sell SSA certified and labeled mattresses."
The article revealed that the website will include a glossary containing terms linked to federal and international environmental and product safety regulations, an educational video, and a list of manufacturers complying with the SSA labeling program.
“Mattresses are an essential part of sleeping, so it’s important for people to understand what they are sleeping on,” Maas said. “This website will be helpful for those environmentally conscious consumers or health concerned parents.”
