DNAIndia.com published an article describing how mud races are being adapted for use in India.
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) January 22, 2013
On January 22, Spartan Race comments on the growing popularity of challenging races and their continuous spread across the globe.
DNAIndia.com explains how the popularity of mud races has spread to India. The article claims that the template for India’s race is based on the formats that are popular in the United States and the United Kingdom that require participants to take on various physical challenges in order to complete the course.
The Indian mud race was designed by their Special Forces. According to the article, the race is meant to appeal to the physically fit but it is a challenge open to a wider pool of potential racers. Challengers are given the option to warm up with onsite trainers. The race is reported to be a seven kilometer run and participants will be released in waves at predetermined times. The article also states that cooperative effort among racers is an important aspect of the race. As such, racers can register a team to compete in the race and take advantage of a mutual support among team members.
According to the article, the obstacles on the course range from walls, fire, tire arrangements and muddy terrain. In the case that a challenge proves to be too much, allowances are made to skip a select number of obstacles and still qualify to finish the race. The DNAindia.com article emphasizes the feeling of accomplishment with a celebration at the end of the race. Food, music and an area to rest await those that take on the challenge, reports the article. The article also mentions a secondary agenda to the race. A percentage of the money will be donated to members and families of the armed forces.
Joseph Desena, founder of Spartan Race, comments on the Indian adoption of a mud run. “With the growing popularity of events like the Spartan Race, it’s satisfying to see people looking for ways to find challenges to overcome. In a day and age where more and more is done by the push of a button, its refreshing to be a part of an experience that allows people to participate in something that reminds them that they are really alive.” Desena further elaborates by saying, “Few things can leave you with a feeling of real achievement the way a good physical challenge can. Completing a challenge reminds the participant that all of their training and determination were worth it.”
