More than 360 employees at Red River Army Depot will lose their jobs next month.
According to a statement released by RRAD Wednesday, the impending reduction to the contractor and term workforce is the result of a decreasing workload.
The depot, which provides maintenance support for the Army, will reduce its total workforce by as many as 184 contractor employees and up to 183 employees.
The reductions are expected to begin in February 2013.
RRAD's statement explains that term employees are hired to perform specific tasks for a prescribed time. When work is no longer available, they are typically released. The affected term workers include both Wage Grade and General Schedule employees who support the depots' administrative, production, inspection, and maintenance operations.
The depot increased both its temporary and contractor workforce in 2004 due to the surge in Iraq and Afghanistan. As the U.S. continues to reduce its combat military presence abroad, the workload required to support military contingency operations is reduced as well.
RRAD received a $680M contract to repair more than 6,000 Humvee vehicles in January 2012.
