LSU gymnastics climbs to No. 5 in latest national rankings

BATON ROUGE – After posting a 196.875 team score in an upset win against Florida, the LSU gymnastics team climbed three spots to No. 5 in the newest edition of the rankings released by GymInfo on Monday.

The rankings are calculated by team score average, and LSU sits at No. 5 with an average of 196.475 after earning a 196.075 in the opener and the 196.875 against the Gators.

LSU (2-0, 1-0 SEC) has been ranked in the top 25 in 167 consecutive polls and for 619 straight weeks. The last time LSU was not ranked in the top 25 was Feb. 26, 2001.

UCLA is No. 1 with a 196.788 average, followed by Michigan at No. 2 with a 196.738 average and Oklahoma and Florida tied for third at 196.575.

LSU's next opponent, Alabama, is ranked right behind the Tigers at No. 6 with a 196.450 score, and Nebraska (196.300), Georgia (195.813), Arkansas (195.775) and Stanford (195.725) round out the top 10.

In the individual rankings, sophomores Rheagan Courville and Lloimincia Hall are both in the top 10 nationally in the all-around. Courville ranks third with a 39.463 average, and Hall is 10th with a 39.350 average.

Hall and Courville also top the floor standings with Hall ranked No. 2 with a 9.95 average and Courville ranked No. 3 with a 9.938 average. Courville ranks No. 18 nationally on vault with a 9.875 average.

Sarie Morrison ranks eighth in the country on vault with a 9.90 average, and she is tied for 14th on bars with a 9.863 average.

LSU will hit the road for the first time this season when the Tigers compete at Alabama (1-0, 1-0) at 7:30 p.m. CT Friday. Live audio will be able free of charge in the Geaux Zone at www.LSUsports.net/live.
