Saints, NFL to host officiating academy

From the New Orleans Saints:

The New Orleans Saints and the National Football League will host a football officiating academy on Tuesday, January 29 at the club's practice facility in Metairie.

There is no charge to participate in the officiating academy, which will run from 3:30-8:30 p.m. for individuals aged 17 to 30 looking to become game officials or to further enhance their officiating skills with education on basic football rules and officiating philosophies. Expert instruction will be provided by NFL game officials, scouts and league officiating supervisors.

The session will feature the following activities.

• "An Official's Road To The NFL" presentation.

• Instruction of getting started in the field of officiating as well as the process and fundamentals.

• A "You Make The Call" instant replay video presentation, which will put participants in officiating situations.

• On-field instruction and mechanics shadowing drills.

• Dinner and light refreshments.
