School officials found a loaded gun in a 6th grader's backpack Monday morning at Capitol Middle School in Baton Rouge.
The gun was found just after 12:30 p.m. According to reports, school officials were looking into a verbal confrontation involving two students. While doing so, they found a loaded .380 caliber handgun. The handgun was listed as stolen through Baton Rouge Police.
The 13-year-old student will be charged with carrying a firearm by a student on school property and illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
