BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
The St. George Fire Department performed a water rescue around 4 p.m. Friday on Horseshoe Bend Road after the waters of the Amite River rose around them.
Two residents tried to walk out through the swift current but only one
of them was able to get across the running water. The other was swept off the roadway.
He was fortunately wearing a life vest and was able to grab on to a tree.
St. George's rescue team was able to put a boat into the
water and reach the man, who had clung to the tree for almost an hour.
They got him into their boat and brought the man to
shore. He was transported to a point on Hoo Shoo Too where water had not
covered the road and an EMS ambulance had backed up to water's edge.
The victim said he was cold but otherwise uninjured and
declined medical treatment.
