BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reports the closure of hunting seasons in some Wildlife Management Areas due to flooding from storms that passed through the area.
The LDWF said all hunting seasons, except waterfowl, on Joyce, Manchac and Maurepas Swamp Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) will be closed starting Jan. 12, 2013 due to high water levels in the Maurepas Basin associated with recent rain events.
This hunting season closure on these three WMAs in Ascension, Livingston, St. James, St. John the Baptist and Tangipahoa parishes will remain in effect until further notice.
Officials also reported all hunting seasons, except waterfowl, on Pearl River Wildlife Management Area will be closed starting Jan. 11, 2013 due to the river stage at Pearl River, LA reaching 16.5 feet.
This hunting season closure on the WMA in southeastern St. Tammany Parish will remain in effect until water levels drop below 16.5 feet.
