Suspect and victim identified in Hollywood St. shooting

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge police are investigating a shooting and a crash that left one person dead Thursday night.

Officials say 30-year-old Brannon Counts was shot in the parking lot in the 5700 block of Hollywood Street just after 5 p.m. Thursday night during what police are calling an altercation that involved a drug transaction.

Police say after Counts was shot, he sped away and drove through a grassy field at the corner of Hollywood Street and McClelland Avenue where he crashed into the backyard fence of a home.

Counts was found dead at the scene of the crash.

Police say 30-year-old Ruben Van Dyke of Alexandra, LA is wanted by the Baton Rouge Police for his involvement in the shooting and killing of Counts. Van Dyke was last seen fleeing the area in a white convertible Chrysler Sebring with a black roof.
