PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A group fighting for migrant justice and human rights is planning a protest outside Tent City in the wake of an inmate's death.
Puente Arizona said the Jan. 5 nighttime death of 60-year-old Arthur Madril is "a reminder of the inhumane conditions the sheriff forces on those in his custody."
Madril was in custody on a $4,000 child support warrant. He was booked into custody in September.
MCSO spokesperson Sgt. Brandon Jones said Madril was on work release status, meaning he worked during the week and reported to jail every night and weekend.
CPR was performed and an automated external defibrillator was used, but Phoenix Fire pronounced him deceased.
Thursday's vigil and demonstration will occur at 6 p.m. outside the Tent City facility at 31st Avenue and Durango.
"Arpaio treats dogs better than he treats the people inside the tents," Puente Arizona's Carlos Garcia said.
The protest was scheduled for earlier this month but postponed until now.
