Shots fired after men argue over girl

A squabble at a local convenience store ended in gunfire and a police investigation.

On Tuesday evening, three men at the Food Fast in the 1700 block of Front Street in Tyler were confronted by a man with a gun while they were waiting to meet a girl.

The police report said one of the three men had texted a girl to meet them there. While they were waiting, another guy showed up with the girl in his car.

"That guy pulls out a gun and waves it at the men and tells them to never call the girl again and leaves with the girl," said Tyler Police Officer Don Martin.

Police said right now the relationship between the man with the gun and the girl is unclear.

The three guys who were waiting for the girl then followed the guy to get a license plate.

"The guy with the gun fired a few rounds into the air," said Martin.

The three guys were able to get a license plate number and police are investigating.

Depending on what the police investigation reveals, the man who fired the gun could be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The man with the gun could also be charged with reckless conduct for discharging a firearm within the city limits if the investigation shows this incident did happen while the men were still in the city.

The report didn't indicate if the man with the gun actually shot at the three males. Police said he may have fired shots in an attempt to scare them to get them away.
