BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - On Monday U.S. Senator David Vitter, R-LA, insulted one of his colleagues. "Sadly, Harry Reid has again revealed himself to be an idiot, this time gravely insulting Gulf Coast residents," Vitter posted on his Facebook account.
On Friday Sen. Reid, D-NV, compared Hurricane's Sandy and Katrina to one another suggesting that Sandy was worse. "The people of New Orleans and that area, they were hurt," said Reid. "But nothing in comparison to what happened to the people of New England."
More than 1,800 people were killed during Katrina and 120 during Sandy. "It doesn't surprise me," says New Orleans area Senator Danny Martiny, R-Metairie. "I think he's completely out of touch. It's not the dumbest thing I've ever heard him say but it's up there."
While Reid back-pedaled Monday saying he misquoted the intent of his remarks and the damage had already been done. "I think its ignorance on his part trying to make a political statement at the expense of the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, says Rep. Jeff Arnold, D-New Orleans,
Reid made his comments on Friday while addressing the Full Senate. He added his frustration to how slowly the federal help is coming for those hurt by Hurricane Sandy.
