2 killed, 6 injured in St. Clair Co. crash

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Two people, including an infant, died as a result of a car crash in St. Clair County that also left six injured.

Carlos Lopez-Cortes, a 27-year-old man from Fort Payne, was killed in the wreck. A two-month-old child from Fort Payne was taken to Children's Hospital and later died as a result from her injuries, according to state troopers. The infant's name has not been released, due to her age.

Troopers say the wreck happened at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6 on I-59 about five miles north of Springville.

A 28-year-old woman and 47-year-old woman were injured in the wreck and taken to UAB Hospital for treatment. Four children ages 12, 8, 6 and 3 were also injured and transported to Children's of Alabama hospital. There is no update on their conditions.

All of the people involved in the wreck were from Fort Payne and were traveling in a 1995 GMC Suburban at the time of the crash.

The accident is still under investigation.
