PIEDMONT, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said a man set his mother on fire in Piedmont on Tuesday morning before he was shot by another family member.

Anderson County Sheriff's Office spokesman Chad McBride said the man was 38-year-old Stanley Shawn Davis. He said the incident happened at a house on River Road in Piedmont.

McBride said after Davis set his mother, Debra Davis, on fire, he then went to Langston Street where he was shot by a family member about 8 a.m.

FOX Carolina spoke with Stanley Davis' brother, Anthony, who said he shot him in self defense.

"Well, I told him many times to leave," Anthony Davis said. "Don't come towards me ... I told him three more times."

Debra Davis was taken from Greenville Memorial Hospital to the Augusta Burn Center with serious burn wounds, deputies said. Jan Dial, Debra Davis' sister, said she has burns covering more than 35 percent of her body. Dill said Stanley Davis has made several threats against family members, including on Monday night.

The suspect is being treated at Greenville Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, therefore no charges have been officially filed yet. Anderson County investigators said once he is released from the hospital, he will be charged.

Investigators said no charges will be filed against the Anthony Davis.
