ST. GABRIEL, LA (WAFB) -
officials say inmate Joshua Kelly escaped from the Elayn Hunt Correctional
Center after overpowering a guard who is also an EMT at the prison.
say Kelly then stole a prison ambulance and took off out of the prison.
enforcement teams were able to track the inmate after he started making calls
from a cell phone that was in the stolen ambulance.
Angola Warden Burl Cain said he was surprised when the inmate was patched through to

"When I got to the corner of 73 and 75 I saw the ambulance
coming," said St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin Ambeau.
"I put my lights on him and he stuck his hands out the window
and he surrendered. He said just don't let them hurt me and stuck his hands out
and said that he was on the phone with Warden Cain."
Officials arrested Joshua Kelly and there were no serious
