WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Officers with the Wilmington Police Department have closed and investigation into a shooting death that happened early Friday morning.
According to authorities, officers were called out to the 5200 block of Hunters Trail around 12:45 a.m.
When officers arrived, 65-year-old Ali Akbar Dastmalchi told authorities he heard someone breaking the glass on his front door so he grabbed his gun and went to investigate.
Dastmalchi told police he could see the glass in the top of the door was broken. According to police, he opened the front door and saw someone lunging at him with a spiked object in his hand.
Police said the resident fired one round at close range, hitting the intruder in the chest.
According to police, the Dastmalchi realized when he turned on the porch light the person he shot was his brother, Vahid Dastmalchi and immediately called 911.
"My brother - he attacked me," he told 911 operators. "I shot him."
EMS took his 63-year-old brother to the hospital where he later died.
According to the District Attorney's Office, no charges will be filed in this case.
