The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the northern half of the viewing area to a 'moderate risk' of severe weather.
The label means the areas in orange have a 45 percent chance or better of severe weather on Christmas Day.
The Storm Prediction Center also notes the threat of what it refers to as 'significant' severe weather for much of our area on Tuesday.
'Significant' severe weather includes wind gusts of 75 mph or higher, EF2 or stronger tornadoes and hail 2" in diameter or larger.
In essence, strong, long-lived tornadoes are a possibility in parts of the Deep South on Tuesday.
