ROSELAND, LA (WAFB) -

A deputy who thought it was strange a man was just standing in the middle of the road ended up arresting a suspected drug dealer with a gun on him.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office said Joatham Echagile, 24, of Roseland was taken into custody Wednesday evening.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards said one of his deputies was driving on Central Avenue in Roseland and saw Echagile just standing in the center of the roadway. He added Echagile was dressed in dark clothing.

TPSO said the deputy found 20 small bags of what is believed to be marijuana and a .22-caliber handgun on Echagile.

Deputies added they also discovered he is a convicted felon with three outstanding warrants.

Echagile was booked into the parish prison on the following charges:

Possession with the intent to distribute CDS I

Possession of CDS I while in possession of a handgun

Convicted felon in possession of a handgun

Simple obstruction of a roadway

Bond has not been set.
