CLEVELAND (WOIO) -
A man is going to prison for ambushing a blind woman in her own apartment building, and sexually assaulting her.
Our sister station, WOIO, obtained security video showing how Charles Barnett stalked his handicapped victim as she went to her own apartment.
It happened last spring in downtown Cleveland in a high-rise for seniors and the handicapped.
Security video shows Barnett following the blind woman off an elevator, then waiting for her to open her apartment door, then barging inside.
Cleveland Sex Crimes investigators tied Barnett to the crime after he was arrested at a homeless shelter.
Cuyahoga County Prosecutors say Barnett will go to prison for 17 years, and he'll have to register as a sex offender for life.
He had no business being in that building, and this crime led residents to protest for more security. Building management says it now uses a different security firm.
