HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Justin Lockett has fond memories of his brother Jarrod Lockett, 23.
"My brother was a very fun loving person," he said. "He didn't have an aggressive bone in him. He loved to make everyone around him laugh; he loved to make everybody smile. Even at the worst of times he would tell us not to worry about anything."
On December 4th, Jarrod was gunned down outside the Madison Garden Apartments in Huntsville. The UAH student was shot in the head and hand.
He was rushed to Huntsville Hospital and after surgery appeared to be getting better.
"We saw a lot of signs that he was getting better, and then Saturday it had taken a turn of the worst," Justin said.
Jarrod was set to graduate from UAH on Saturday. Justin accepted it in his brother's honor.
"It was tough," Justin said. "I sat through the whole graduation and prepared myself to go across the stage and once I gave the name card to go across the stage, I hesitated and I felt my brother tell me, 'Come on. Don't worry about it,' and he and I together walked across that stage and that's when it hit me."
Hours after the ceremony, Jarrod passed away. Justin said he was surrounded by loved ones.
"That was one of the toughest moments of my life, but I understand that he's in a better place," he said.
Police have made no arrests in the shooting. Justin said he doesn't know what led up to his brother's shooting.
"We have no idea what could have led to this," he said. "Just a couple of hours earlier he was on campus with his fraternity brother studying for finals, and he had just got off FaceTime talking to my mother. And then a couple of hours later, this happened, so we really don't know."
Funeral services for Jarrod Lockett will take place Friday, December 21st at Saint Luke Christian Church in Huntsville. The service starts at noon. Jarrod will be buried at Faith Memorial Park.
