BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
The School Drug Task Force arrested two students Tuesday at Park Forest Middle School in Baton Rouge after a loaded gun was found in an outside garbage can after school let out.
Two 8th graders, one 13-years-old and one 14-years-old, have been charged with illegal carrying of a weapon on school property and possession of a stolen firearm.
According to reports, the School Drug Task Force was contacted Tuesday afternoon by a school administrator after the school let out.
An anonymous student reported seeing another student with a gun. Administrators found a loaded .40 caliber handgun inside a bookbag inside an outside trash can. The gun was reportedly stolen out of Tangipahoa Parish in a 2011 residential burglary.
The SDTF is not aware of any threats made at this time. Investigation is ongoing and other arrests may be pending.
The School Drug Task Force is a multi-agency unit made up of East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Deputies and Baton Rouge Police Officers.
Students with information concerning this incident or similar incidents are encouraged to notify a school administrator, contact the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office at 225-389-5000 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (225) 344- STOP or (225) 344-7867.
