ST. AMANT, LA (WAFB) -
An 8-year-old child was placed with family members after the child was found home alone with the oven left on.
Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley reports deputies were called to the apartments on Teddy Babin Road after a call from a concerned citizen saying they were worried about the child because of the mother's alleged pill addiction.
Deputies found the child alone and sleeping in a bedroom with space heaters on the floor.
A short time later, Quirk arrived at the apartments with a man. She told deputies why she thought it was ok to leave the child home while she left for about 20 minutes to get her car from another location.
Quirk was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on misdemeanor charges of child desertion. She was released from jail after posting a misdemeanor bond of $292.50.
