BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Former governors Edwin Edwards, Buddy Roemer, Mike Foster, and
Kathleen Blanco all gathered on stage with microphones. The group entertained
hundreds of people celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Council
for a Better Louisiana.
"There are a lot of people that have a lot of interest
in these folks," says Barry Erwin, CABL'S executive director. "Folks enjoyed
seeing them together on stage in public like that."
"I can't think of another time that four living former
governors got together," says Edwin Edwards. "I'm glad to be here."
Edwards
described the governor as the "central focus of power" in Louisiana.
Foster and
Blanco worried about the encroachment of partisanship into state politics.
Roemer said the Legislature should be more independent.
